It's been snowing for almost two weeks now. The ice, like concrete, makes it hard to know where the sidewalk ends, makes it hard to move, so today I slept in. My windows are frozen. My tires are locked to the ground by ice and the plough, it's hard to move, so today I slept in. I am a New Englander. Self-sufficient, and trained to the storm. But I'm blind to the spring, frozen, indurate, beyond the point of melting. Hard earth is starting to look good to me now. So today I practiced for life without spring, because the ice is so hard, today I slept in.
