It's going to be a little different this year, but the party is on! Some history is in order.

Every year, people congregate at this park to watch the West Haven fireworks.

Pardee Seawall Park is at at the end of the street I live on (only about 3 houses away.) Several shoreline towns hold their fireworks displays at the same time, so you get to watch quite a show along the shore on the right side, as you stand along the railing and face the water.

There are 2 restaurants along the shore on the left side, and they put on a fireworks show of their own at the same time. Meanwhile, along the grass strip, the amateurs are putting on their fireworks show. So, basically, you are surrounded by fireworks for the length of the West Haven show.

Eventually, this crowd packs up and slowly disperses, and we walk back to our house.

And then the party begins.

You see, two of my neighbors across the street have what I believe is a fireworks club. I was told that the members collect dues all year, they save up, and buy fireworks. Professional grade fireworks. Lots and lots and lots of professional grade fireworks. They have occasionally outstripped the town shows.

And they compete with each other.

If you love things that go BOOM, our house is the place to be when West Haven puts on their show.

But this year is going to be a little different.

In an effort to save money, West Haven elected to hold their fireworks show earlier, and on a Thursday night. I do not know if my reclusive neighbors will hold their show and, if so, at the usual time. We have to go to work the next morning; I'm just sort of assuming that they might have to also. So I decided to be a little loose about the party this year.

We'll start cooking on Thursday around 5:00. It is a POTLUCK, but please do not worry if any circumstance prevents you from bringing food; there is always plenty. Please try to arrive no later than 6:00 on Thursday (or the rain date of Friday) if you plan to park. The streets get choked with traffic, and the park fills with people and animals.

As far as we know, a grand time has always been had by all, and we sincerely hope to see YOU this year!
